The Lost Apothecary by Sarah Penner is my first novel by her and I was not disappointed. We go back and forth into time from present day with Caroline and in the past with Nella and Eliza. The Lost Apothecary is written in the views of each of these characters. Caroline is not lived her life in such a way she had initially planned but nonetheless thought she was happy until she learned of her husbands infidelity. She embarks on a trip to London where adventure enters her life again. Nella holds the stories in which her herbs have both healed and killed. As Nella had intended to continue her mothers dream to help woman her own experience has created the secret door where she helps women kill men. Eliza is young girl who moved from her family farm to be a servant in London and live a better life than the one she was born in. Her mistress sends her to Nella’s Apothecary and that’s when the entanglement of Nella and Eliza become interesting. This is fast paced and tied up in the end.
